Cavalli Estate Stellenbosch | Wedding Venue Review

A Wedding at Cavalli Estate Stellenbosch is one of those weddings where you arrive and immediately understand why so many couples fall in love with the venue. Cavalli has that rare combination of modern architecture, beautiful Winelands scenery, excellent food, open space and a real sense of occasion.

Wedding Venue Review from a Photo & Video perspective

If an old friend asked us whether Cavalli is a good wedding venue, we would say yes — absolutely. But we would also say this: use the venue properly. Cavalli gives you so many different spaces, views and photo opportunities that it would be a pity to only use one small part of the estate. It is one of those venues where the wedding can feel elegant, relaxed, luxurious, modern or completely unique, depending on how you plan and style the day.

For us at ZaraZoo, Cavalli Estate is also a venue we know very well. We have photographed and filmed many weddings there, and every time we go back, we find another angle, another pocket of light, another backdrop or another moment that reminds us why it is such a strong Stellenbosch wedding venue.

Ceremony Options at Cavalli Estate

One of the first things we would tell a couple planning a Wedding at Cavalli Estate Stellenbosch is that the venue gives you proper ceremony options. You are not forced into one standard setup. Depending on the season, the weather, your guest count and the feeling you want for the ceremony, Cavalli can give you a few very different looks.

The Sunken Garden

The Sunken Garden is probably one of Cavalli’s most well-known ceremony spaces. It is elegant, formal and beautifully framed by greenery. It works very well if you want an outdoor ceremony that still feels intimate and structured.

We love this space because it gives the ceremony a strong shape. The aisle, the hedges, the seating and the open sky all work together beautifully in photos and video. It is also close to the main function venue, which makes the day flow easily from ceremony to pre-drinks.

Our advice here would be to think carefully about your floral design. The Sunken Garden already has a lot of structure, so you do not always need to overdo it. A beautiful floral arch, statement arrangements or soft aisle florals can be enough to make it feel personal without taking away from the setting.

The Lawn Next to the Lake

The lawn next to the lake gives you a completely different feeling. This option is more open and more connected to the surrounding landscape. You get the water, the vineyards, the sky and the mountains all playing a part in the ceremony atmosphere.

This is a lovely option if you want your guests to really feel that they are in the Stellenbosch Winelands. It feels relaxed, but still very elegant. It is also beautiful for wide photos and video clips where you can see the full scale of the estate.

If the weather is good and you want that classic outdoor Winelands ceremony feeling, the lawn next to the lake is a wonderful choice.

Indoor Ceremony Options

One of the things we always appreciate about Cavalli is that the indoor options do not feel like sad backup plans. That is important, because in the Cape you always need to think about wind and rain, even if you are planning a summer wedding.

The smaller indoor function room can work very well for a more intimate ceremony or as a practical wet-weather option.

The Cavalli Art Gallery is another very stylish option. If you need to move indoors, or if you simply want something more modern and editorial, the gallery can be a beautiful ceremony space. It has a completely different mood from the garden and lawn areas. It feels artistic, sophisticated and very Cavalli.

For a couple worried about weather, this is a big plus. At Cavalli, an indoor ceremony can still feel intentional and beautiful.

A Venue You Can Make Your Own

Cavalli is one of those venues that gives you a very strong foundation, but it does not force one specific wedding style on you. That is one of the reasons we like it so much.

The main function space is modern, clean and elegant. It has large glass doors, beautiful views and a neutral base that can be styled in many different ways. You can go soft and romantic, modern and minimal, bold and dramatic, classic and timeless, or colourful and full of energy.

We have seen Cavalli work beautifully for intimate weddings, large luxury weddings, African weddings, Nigerian weddings, cocktail-style celebrations and very elegant seated receptions. The venue can handle all of it.

If we were giving advice to a friend, we would say: choose a strong creative team and let them use the space properly. Cavalli can be transformed with flowers, lighting, furniture, stationery and table design. It is not a venue where every wedding has to look the same.

Onsite Catering Is a Big Plus

The food and service side of a wedding is something guests always remember. That is why Cavalli’s onsite catering is such a big advantage.

The Cavalli Restaurant is already part of the estate’s reputation, and that food and hospitality experience carries through into weddings. Having the catering connected to the venue helps the day feel smoother. The team knows the space, the kitchen knows the timing, and the service is built around the venue.

For a couple, this takes away a lot of stress. You are not trying to bring in a completely separate food operation that still needs to learn the venue. Everything feels more connected.

From our side as photographers and videographers, good service also helps the timeline. When canapés, dinner, speeches and dancing run smoothly, the whole evening has a better rhythm.

Our Favourite Photo Spots at Cavalli

This is where Cavalli really becomes special for us. There are many pretty venues in Stellenbosch, but Cavalli gives us a lot of variety without needing to take the couple away from the celebration for too long.

If you are planning a wedding here, these are some of the spots and photo ideas we would definitely keep in mind.

Groom Preparation in the Wine Tasting Cellar

One of our favourite looks at Cavalli is groom preparation in the wine tasting cellar. The space has a moody, dramatic feeling, and the art in the background gives the photos a very stylish edge.

It works especially well for portraits of the groom, groomsmen photos, jacket shots, cufflinks, watches and those quieter moments before the ceremony. The cellar gives a completely different atmosphere from the outdoor spaces, which adds variety to the final gallery.

It is a very good option if the groom wants preparation photos that feel a bit more masculine, dramatic and editorial.

Bride and Groom on the Dam Wall

For that real wow-factor Cavalli shot, we love taking the bride and groom onto the dam wall between the fynbos, with the Stellenbosch mountains in the background.

This is one of those locations where the venue really shows off. You get the natural texture of the fynbos, the water, the open sky and the mountain backdrop. It feels grand without being forced.

These photos work beautifully just after the ceremony or during golden hour, depending on the timeline. If the light is soft and the couple is relaxed, this spot can give you some of the strongest images of the day.

Bridal Party on the Main Road Next to the Cavalli Building

Another favourite shot is the bridal party walking along the main road next to the modern Cavalli building, with the Helderberg mountain towering in the background.

This is such a strong Cavalli image because it combines the clean, modern architecture of the venue with the natural drama of the mountains. It also works very well for bridal party photos because there is space, movement and a strong sense of place.

Instead of stiff bridal party photos, this area allows for walking shots, laughing shots and more relaxed group images. It feels modern and stylish, but still very much connected to the Winelands.

Photos Between the Vines

Of course, Cavalli is still a Stellenbosch wine estate, and the vineyards are always worth using. Photos between the vines give the couple gallery that classic Winelands feeling.

These shots are especially beautiful when the light is soft. The vines add texture and depth, and they remind you exactly where the wedding happened. It is a simple location, but it always works.

If you are getting married at Cavalli, we would definitely recommend making time for a few vineyard portraits. They balance out the more modern architectural photos beautifully.

Photos with the Horses

Something that not every couple thinks about is that Cavalli is also a stud farm. If arranged in advance, photos with the horses can add a very different angle to the wedding gallery.

This is not for every couple, but for the right wedding it can be amazing. It gives the photos a sense of movement, elegance and personality. It can also be a lovely nod to the estate itself, because the horses are such an important part of Cavalli’s identity.

Our advice would be to plan this properly with the venue. It needs to be arranged ahead of time, and it must be done safely and calmly. But when it works, it gives you something unique that not every wedding gallery has.

Why Cavalli Works So Well for Photo and Video

Cavalli works beautifully for photo and video because it gives us contrast. You have the dark, dramatic cellar. You have the clean, modern architecture. You have vineyards. You have water. You have mountains. You have fynbos. You have the art gallery. You have polished reception spaces. You have open lawns and elegant garden areas.

That variety is a gift on a wedding day.

It means the couple photos do not all look the same. It also means the wedding film can move through different moods — quiet preparation, elegant ceremony, relaxed pre-drinks, golden hour portraits, emotional speeches and a big evening celebration.

For us, the best wedding venues are not just beautiful. They are practical, versatile and full of photographic possibilities. Cavalli ticks all of those boxes.

Bridal and Groom Preparation Near Cavalli

Cavalli is also close to some excellent preparation venues, which can make the wedding morning feel easier and more relaxed.

Avontuur Estate is one nearby option that works well for bridal or groom preparation. It has a classic Stellenbosch estate feeling, with vineyards, gardens and a relaxed atmosphere. It is close enough to Cavalli that you do not lose too much time travelling on the wedding day.

Majeka House is another lovely option, especially if you want a boutique hotel feel. The rooms and interiors are stylish, and it gives the morning a calm, private atmosphere.

If we were helping a friend plan the day, we would say: do not underestimate the importance of the getting-ready location. A beautiful, calm preparation space makes a big difference to the photos, the video and the overall mood of the morning.

Wedding Coordinators Who Often Work at Cavalli

Cavalli is a venue that really benefits from good planning. Because there are so many spaces and so many possibilities, the right coordinator can make the day feel effortless.

We often see strong planning teams working at Cavalli, including Warren-Stone Weddings, Trunk Events and The Event Planners.

A good coordinator will help you use the venue properly, keep the timeline realistic, manage the suppliers and make sure the guest flow works. For a venue like Cavalli, that is very important.

When the planning is good, the couple gets to enjoy the day instead of worrying about logistics. And from our side, it means we can focus on capturing real moments rather than trying to fix timing problems.

Our Advice for Couples Planning a Wedding at Cavalli

If you are planning a Wedding at Cavalli Estate Stellenbosch, our biggest advice would be to make time for the venue.

Do not rush the couple shoot. Do not only use one backdrop. Do not forget about the dam wall, the vineyards, the road next to the main building, the cellar, the fynbos and the possibility of horse photos. Cavalli gives you so much, and the best wedding galleries from this venue usually come from couples who allow a bit of time to enjoy the estate.

We would also recommend thinking carefully about the preparation locations, ceremony setup and reception styling. Cavalli is already beautiful, but with the right planning and creative team, it can feel completely personal.

It is one of those venues where you can have a wedding that feels polished and luxurious, but still warm, emotional and full of personality.

Why We Recommend Cavalli Estate

We would happily recommend Cavalli Estate to couples who want a modern, elegant and visually impressive wedding venue in Stellenbosch.

It gives you beautiful ceremony options, strong reception spaces, onsite catering, excellent guest flow and some of the best photo opportunities in the Winelands. It is versatile enough for many different wedding styles, but it always keeps that refined Cavalli feeling.

For ZaraZoo, Cavalli is always a venue we enjoy returning to. The light is beautiful, the spaces are practical, the views are impressive and the estate gives us so many ways to tell the story of a wedding day.

If you are considering a wedding at Cavalli Estate, we would say it is definitely one to keep high on your list. And if you do book it, make sure you leave enough room in the timeline to really enjoy what the venue has to offer.
