Molenvliet offers several accommodation choices on the estate: four Guest Cottages, thirteen Mountain View Suites, four double rooms in the River Manor and six double rooms in the Manor House. The cottages overlook the forest-like gardens, while the suites and manor houses make the most of the vineyard and mountain views.

Having preparations, accommodation, the ceremony, photographs and reception in one place makes a wonderful difference. You can enjoy a slower wedding morning with your closest people, without packing up and travelling between venues. Family and friends staying on the estate can settle in for the weekend, and those guests can walk back to their rooms after the celebration rather than arrange a late-night drive. From our photography perspective, fewer transfers also means more time for relaxed moments and photographs.

One of Molenvliet’s biggest advantages is that virtually the entire wedding can take place on the estate. There are several outdoor ceremony locations, indoor and covered alternatives, a versatile main reception venue, a wine cellar, beautiful gardens and luxury accommodation.

Molenvliet’s position in the Banhoek Valley gives the couple session a spectacular setting, with mountains on both sides and vineyards close to the wedding spaces. We love using the rows of vines as the afternoon light softens: they bring depth to the photographs and that unmistakable Cape Winelands feeling.

The large oak trees and winding, tree-lined path down the hill are other favourite spots. The trees offer shade and texture, while the path gives us lovely leading lines for relaxed walking photographs. We can then move to the lawns, gardens and white Manor House for a more classic architectural look.

The reception courtyard and wine cellar add another mood, and the Manor House gives us an option when the weather changes. With these backdrops so close together, we can create a varied collection of portraits without taking you away from your guests for long. A short return to the vineyards near sunset is often worth building into the timeline.

Molenvliet’s main reception hall is an adaptable white space with a Colonial and Cape Dutch character. Large barrel doors, chandeliers and the neutral interior give your décor team room to create anything from a romantic dinner with long tables to a dramatic celebration with statement florals, lighting and a dance floor.

The vineyard-facing deck beside the main hall brings the mountain views into the celebration. It is a lovely option for a smaller outdoor reception, as well as drinks, canapés and a lounge area before guests move inside for dinner and dancing. The connecting veranda makes the flow between the indoor and outdoor spaces feel natural.

The open-air courtyard is another reception setting for a more intimate celebration. It opens towards the veranda and deck, so you can create a connected courtyard dinner and outdoor gathering. A Bedouin tent over the courtyard can also form part of your covered setup. Discuss your guest count, table layout and weather plan with the estate when choosing between these spaces.

For a different mood, the wine cellar offers an atmospheric setting for an intimate dinner or welcome event. The vineyard lawn can also be considered for outdoor dining in suitable weather. Having these options together on the estate makes it easy to shape the evening around your celebration, from relaxed pre-drinks to dinner, speeches and dancing.

For preparations before your Cavalli wedding, Majeka House in Paradyskloof and Avontuur Estate on the R44 are two getting-ready venues to consider. Majeka House offers boutique hotel accommodation, while Avontuur offers accommodation in its renovated Manor House.

For outdoor ceremonies, the Sunken Garden is one of Cavalli’s most recognisable options. It has a beautifully formal feel, while the lawn alongside the water gives couples a more open ceremony setting surrounded by the Winelands landscape.

Cavalli also has excellent indoor options, which is important when planning a Cape wedding where wind or rain can always make a surprise appearance. Indoor ceremonies can still look intentional and stylish rather than feeling like a last-minute Plan B.

Our favourite Cavalli couple-session location is the dam wall between the fynbos, with water, open sky and the Stellenbosch mountains behind you. The natural textures and wide views give the photographs a wonderful sense of scale, especially in the softer light after the ceremony or around golden hour.

For bridal-party photographs, we love the main road beside the modern Cavalli building, with the Helderberg mountain in the background. There is room for walking, laughing and relaxed group photographs, while the architecture gives the images a clean, contemporary look. We then balance those photographs with portraits between the vines for a more classic Winelands feel.

The dark wine-tasting cellar, art and polished interiors offer a dramatic contrast to the landscape. Cavalli is also a stud farm, so photographs with the horses can bring movement and personality to your gallery if arranged with the estate beforehand. Allow time for a few different spots rather than using only one backdrop; the variety is one of Cavalli’s greatest strengths.

The main wedding venue has enormous glass doors that allow natural light into the room while keeping guests connected to the views outside. It is a large, neutral space that can be completely transformed depending on the style of the wedding.

Nooitgedacht offers the historic Manor House bridal suite, guest rooms including the Landman Room, and six self-catering cottages on the estate. Its two-day wedding package includes two nights of accommodation for 24 guests across the bridal suite, four double guest rooms and the cottages. Some cottages also offer sleeper couches for children.

Keeping your closest family and wedding party onsite turns the celebration into a shared weekend. There is time for a rehearsal dinner or braai, a relaxed getting-ready morning and a short walk to the ceremony. Preparations, portraits, reception and accommodation all happen on the same estate, giving you more time with your guests and fewer transport arrangements. Guests staying onsite can enjoy the reception and return to their accommodation without a drive home.

There is an old-world chapel for ceremonies, enormous lawns for outdoor weddings, a beautiful paved lane underneath the oak trees, gardens, ponds, vineyards and numerous areas around the historic buildings for photographs.

Nooitgedacht gives us a beautiful combination of mature oak trees, historic Cape architecture and established gardens. The oaks provide welcome shade during the afternoon and soft backlighting later in the day, while the white Manor House is ideal for elegant bridal portraits with a classic Winelands character.

The oak-lined lane is one of our favourite places for relaxed couple photographs. The repeating trees create leading lines, and the canopy makes the setting feel intimate and romantic. In the gardens, lawns, ponds and pathways, we can find quieter pockets of light and greenery without needing to travel across the estate.

Moving between the Manor House, trees and open lawns gives your gallery variety while keeping you close to the celebration. We can photograph for a while, return you to your guests, and step out again briefly when the evening light becomes beautiful. The lane takes on another atmosphere after dark when fairy lights and the wedding décor are in place.

The main banqueting hall can also accommodate a substantial wedding, making Nooitgedacht a particularly good option for couples planning larger celebrations. At the same time, the gardens and historic spaces mean that smaller weddings can still feel intimate.

Some of our favourite Nooitgedacht weddings have used the outdoor spaces creatively. Long tables underneath the trees, outdoor ceremonies on the lawns, drinks beneath the oaks and even outdoor dance floors can completely transform the estate during the warmer Stellenbosch months.
