La Residence brings an unmistakable sense of occasion to a Franschhoek wedding. Chandeliers, antique furniture, patterned floors and richly decorated suites give the hotel a distinctive character, while the lawns, water and mountain backdrop bring the Cape Winelands into the photographs.
From the weddings we have photographed here, we see its strongest appeal in an elegant celebration where the setting is part of the experience. A formal dinner with your closest people can feel just as complete as a larger wedding. Rod and Linda’s elopement shows how beautifully the property can work for two.

Preparations
The individually decorated suites make preparations feel like part of the wedding story. Colour, furniture, mirrors and architectural details give us more to work with than a plain hotel room, while the outdoor views connect the morning to the Franschhoek setting.
Choose the preparation room with both space and daylight in mind. A tidy area near a window allows us to photograph dressing, details and the people helping you without the room feeling crowded. We also allow time for portraits indoors before moving into the gardens.
The estate offers Hotel Suites, Vineyard Suites and Franschhoek House. The hotel’s age policy applies to its rooms and facilities, so families with young children should discuss accommodation and wedding access with the team. Staying on the estate can simplify the morning and make room for time together before and after the celebration.
Ceremony
The gardens and water give an outdoor ceremony a strong sense of place. The lawn and the area beside the Tea House have featured in weddings we have photographed here, with the mountains adding depth beyond the couple and their guests.
For Rod and Linda’s intimate La Residence elopement, the ceremony took place beside the Tea House on the lawn overlooking the swan lake. Its small scale suited the setting: the focus stayed on their vows and the landscape around them.
Discuss the exact ceremony position with the venue and your photographer. The direction of the light, summer heat and guest seating all affect the experience and the photographs. Agree on an indoor or covered weather plan before the day; a sheltered portrait location alone does not provide a complete ceremony plan.
Photo Session
La Residence offers several different looks within one estate. The fountains and greenery at the entrance create a formal architectural backdrop. The gardens, water and mountain views give the photographs a softer outdoor feel, while the hotel interiors add texture, colour and a more dramatic mood.
The chequered floors, chandeliers, antiques, lawns and orchards give the session variety, although flowering and foliage change with the season. We choose locations around the light and access available on your wedding day.
Rod and Linda’s portraits show how an unhurried elopement allows time to explore the property while keeping the photographs personal. We can move between outdoor and indoor settings without a drive to a separate location. For a wedding with guests, that variety helps create a strong portrait collection while allowing you to return to the celebration promptly.
Allow a flexible portrait window in the schedule and discuss the best timing with us. Mountain shadows affect when the light reaches different parts of the grounds; sunset time alone is not enough to plan the session.
Reception
The main dining area’s chandeliers, fireplaces and distinctive floor create a natural setting for an elegant dinner. In weddings we have photographed here, long tables have complemented the proportions of the room, while the adjoining courtyard and lawns have helped connect the indoor celebration to the estate.
For a much smaller celebration, Rod and Linda ended their wedding day with a private dinner in the Sunken Lounge overlooking the mountains. Their story is a useful example for couples who want a meaningful ceremony and beautiful dining experience without a large reception.
Speak to the events team about the space and layout suited to your guest list, catering, drinks, dancing and evening timings. Agree on menu choices, service and closing times in your event proposal so the evening follows the plan you have chosen.
La Residence is our choice here for couples drawn to luxury hotel interiors, an intimate celebration and mountain views. The suites and formal dining spaces bring a sense of occasion, while Rod and Linda’s elopement shows how personal a small wedding can feel.
Ask the events team which spaces and accommodation must be reserved for your celebration. The main trade-off is the cost and booking scope of a luxury hotel wedding; an elopement and a larger event may have different requirements.
