Talia & Francisco’s Nooitgedacht Wedding | Stellenbosch Wedding Photography
Talia and Francisco’s wedding at Nooitgedacht Estate was a beautiful combination of classic elegance, relaxed Cape Winelands surroundings and a celebration filled with genuine emotion.
Set just outside Stellenbosch, Nooitgedacht is one of those venues that offers an incredible amount of variety for wedding photography. Historic Cape Dutch architecture, established gardens, enormous trees and the famous oak-lined avenues all create very different photographic settings without having to leave the estate.
For Talia and Francisco, it provided the perfect backdrop for a sophisticated wedding that became increasingly energetic as the celebrations moved from the quieter moments of the day into the reception and evening party.
Getting Ready at Nooitgedacht Estate
Wedding days often begin slowly, and these are some of the moments we enjoy documenting most.
Before guests arrive and the formal celebrations begin, there is time to capture the smaller details: the wedding dress, jewellery, flowers and those interactions between the bride and the people closest to her.
Talia chose a beautifully detailed fitted wedding gown with an elegant silhouette. Her hair was worn up, finished with a sparkling bridal hairpiece that complemented the detailing of the dress perfectly.
The traditional interiors and architecture at Nooitgedacht provided a timeless setting for these photographs and contrasted beautifully with the more relaxed outdoor images later in the day.
A Classic Cape Winelands Wedding
One of the reasons we enjoy Nooitgedacht wedding photography so much is the sheer variety available around the estate.
Within a relatively small area, we can photograph against the historic Manor House, beneath enormous trees, along the garden paths and through the estate’s famous tree-lined avenues.
Talia and Francisco kept their wedding style elegant and classic. Francisco wore a dark suit with a crisp white shirt and tie, while the darker colours worn by members of the wedding party created a striking contrast against the greenery of the estate.
Rather than making the couple shoot feel like a separate photo session, we always prefer to allow our couples some time together and photograph naturally as we move through the venue.
Nooitgedacht lends itself particularly well to this approach. There are so many different backgrounds within walking distance that a couple can have a varied set of photographs without disappearing from their guests for hours.
Wedding Photography Around Nooitgedacht
The mature gardens are one of the defining features of Nooitgedacht.
The tall trees soften the light beautifully and create a very different look from the open vineyards and mountain scenery normally associated with Stellenbosch weddings.
We used the grounds for a mixture of couple portraits, wedding-party photographs and more spontaneous moments as the day unfolded.
The historic architecture provides another completely different photographic element. Nooitgedacht’s white Cape Dutch buildings, dark timber details and established gardens give photographs a sense of place that makes the venue immediately recognisable.
These are the kinds of surroundings that remain timeless in wedding photographs many years later.
An Elegant Nooitgedacht Reception
As the wedding moved into the reception, the atmosphere changed from the quieter elegance of the afternoon to a much livelier celebration.
Speeches, laughter and the reactions of family and friends are always an important part of our documentary approach to wedding photography. Some of the most meaningful photographs from a wedding happen when nobody is looking at the camera.
This is where we tend to concentrate on the people rather than simply the formalities — the reactions during speeches, conversations around the tables and those moments between the bride and groom that happen in between everything else.
Talia and Francisco’s reception had exactly that feeling. It was elegant enough to suit the historic setting of Nooitgedacht, while still feeling like a real celebration rather than an overly formal event.
A Sparkling End to the Celebration
One of the standout moments from Talia and Francisco’s wedding came later in the evening.
Surrounded by friends and family holding sparklers, the newlyweds shared a kiss as the celebrations continued around them.
Sparkler photographs can look fantastic when they happen naturally. The combination of movement, warm light and the reactions of the guests creates a photograph that feels completely different from the more polished portraits earlier in the day.
It was a fitting way to finish a wedding that had moved from elegant preparations and romantic portraits into a full evening celebration.
Nooitgedacht Wedding Photography in Stellenbosch
We have photographed numerous weddings at Nooitgedacht over the years, and it remains one of our favourite Stellenbosch wedding venues to photograph.
Every wedding uses the estate slightly differently, which is exactly what makes it interesting. The historic Manor House, gardens, oak trees, reception spaces and surrounding Winelands allow us to create a collection of photographs with plenty of variety while still telling one continuous story.
Talia and Francisco’s wedding is a perfect example.
From the elegant bridal portraits and photographs around the estate to the laughter during the reception and the sparkler-filled evening celebrations, the photographs tell the story of the entire day rather than simply documenting how everything looked.
