LUXURY NIGERIAN WEDDING AT CAVALLI

Monique & Moses

From the moment we arrived at Cavalli Estate, we knew Monique and Moses’ Nigerian Wedding at Cavalli would be something extraordinary to document. As wedding photographers, you develop a sense for when a day will unfold in layers—emotion, culture, and energy—and this celebration delivered on every level.

Set against the dramatic beauty of Cavalli Estate, this was not just a beautiful destination wedding in the Cape Winelands. It was a story that had already travelled across Kampala, New York, London and back to Africa before it arrived in Stellenbosch.

With the day expertly planned by TRUNK EVENTS, every part of the celebration felt intentional. Nothing was overdone, but everything mattered. As photographers, those are the weddings that give you the most to work with, because the beauty is not just in the styling — it is in the meaning behind it.

A Love Story That Gave the Day So Much Depth

As wedding photographers, we never just photograph what is happening in front of us. We are always aware of the story underneath it. And Monique and Moses had a story that added weight to every frame.

They met in Kampala in December 2017 while both were home for the holidays. Moses had almost decided not to go out that evening after a long flight, but he did — and that one decision changed everything. From the moment they met, there was a spark. Over the rest of the festive season, they kept seeing each other, and then by chance found themselves on the same return flight through Dubai on the way back to London and New York.

That kind of beginning already feels cinematic, but what came after mattered even more. They stayed committed through long distance, across continents and time zones, speaking every day and making the effort to keep choosing each other. By the time Moses proposed in London with a private chef and a scrapbook filled with memories of their relationship, their story already carried that rare kind of certainty you can feel when you are around a couple.

That certainty was visible throughout the wedding day. It showed in the way Monique looked at Moses during the ceremony, and in the way he looked back at her — calm, grounded, and completely sure.

From Kampala Tradition to a Nigerian Wedding at Cavalli

Before their white wedding in South Africa, Monique and Moses celebrated their Kwanjula in Kampala on 5 January 2020, honouring family, heritage and tradition in a deeply meaningful way. That cultural richness carried into their wedding week in Cape Town and gave the entire celebration an added sense of identity and heart.

Their Nigerian Wedding at Cavalli felt beautifully international, but never disconnected from home. That is one of the things we loved most about photographing it. It was elegant and refined, but still full of personality, culture and energy. It did not feel like a wedding trying to imitate a trend. It felt like a wedding that belonged to them.

A Four-Day Celebration Full of Story

Monique and Moses did not plan a single wedding day. They created a full experience for their 175 guests, many of whom travelled from the US, UK, Uganda, Germany, Australia and Malaysia.

The celebrations began with a rehearsal dinner and traditional South African show at Gold Restaurant, followed by an all-white party at the Radisson Blu City Centre. Then came the wedding ceremony at Cavalli Estate, followed by a relaxed Sunday braai at a villa overlooking Camps Bay.

From our perspective as photographers and videographers, this kind of destination wedding gives you so much more room to tell a complete story. By the time the ceremony arrives, people are already connected, already relaxed, already emotionally invested. That always comes through in the photographs and film.

It also meant we had the privilege of documenting the entire atmosphere around the couple, not just the formal wedding moments.

A Peacock-Inspired Wedding That Photographed Beautifully

The visual direction of the wedding was inspired by the feather of a peacock and its many colour variations, and that gave the celebration such a rich and striking identity. Styled by N’CONCEPTS, the decor and floral elements added depth, colour and drama without ever feeling too heavy for the venue.

From a photography point of view, that balance matters. Cavalli has such a strong architectural presence and such beautiful natural surroundings that the decor needs to work with the space, not against it. This wedding did exactly that.

The result was a setting that felt luxurious, layered and expressive — something that translated beautifully on camera throughout the day.

The Energy Shifted and the Celebration Came Alive

One of the things we remember most clearly about this wedding was how naturally the day moved from elegance into celebration.

The ceremony and canapés were elevated by MEZZANINE FLOOR, while the reception energy was carried by DJ SALIMAX, whose music brought the room to life. Performances by AFRODIZZY ACTS and THANDEKA DLADLA added another layer of personality and cultural rhythm to the evening, making the entire experience feel immersive and unforgettable.

Behind it all, THE PARTY TECHNICIAN handled the sound and equipment, helping create an atmosphere that felt polished and seamless from start to finish. Every part of the guest experience was considered, and that always makes a difference to how a wedding feels in real time and how it is remembered later.

Why Cavalli Estate Worked So Well

As wedding photographers, we are always aware of how a venue shapes the flow and visual tone of a day. Cavalli Estate is one of those venues that gives you space to breathe creatively.

There is the strong modern architecture, the open views over the Stellenbosch landscape, the vineyards, the clean reception spaces, and the kind of natural light that changes beautifully as the day unfolds. It gives you elegance without stiffness, and scale without losing intimacy.

For a wedding like this — with a large bridal party, international guests, layered cultural influences, and plenty of movement and energy — Cavalli was the perfect fit.

And then there were all the finishing touches: the wedding cake by KANYA HUNT, the bridal beauty by SHANAAZ ALEXANDER, and the catering by the CAVALLI ESTATE IN-HOUSE CHEF. Each supplier played a role in making the day feel cohesive, warm and memorable.

A Wedding We Still Remember

Monique and Moses’ Nigerian Wedding at Cavalli was more than visually beautiful. It was meaningful. It had movement, heart, heritage and style. It was the kind of wedding that reminds us why we do what we do.

As photographers, we are always looking for honest moments. On this day, they were everywhere.

Not only in the big moments, but in the quiet ones too.

And that is what made this wedding so special to capture.
