LA RESIDENCE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY | ROD & LINDA
Rod & Linda
Rod and Linda chose La Residence in Franschhoek for an intimate South African elopement surrounded by mountain views, beautiful gardens and the quiet luxury of the Cape Winelands. ZaraZoo documented their ceremony, couple portraits and romantic dinner through wedding photography and video.
Wedding Photography at La Residence in Franschhoek
Rod and Linda’s fairytale elopement at La Residence in Franschhoek was one of the most intimate weddings we photographed in the Cape Winelands. With no large guest list or busy wedding-day programme, the celebration could remain focused on the two of them and the reason they had travelled to South Africa.
Between them, Rod and Linda have five grown children and three grandchildren, so everyday life back in the United States is full. After postponing their wedding plans more than once during the pandemic, they decided to elope at the beginning of a South African honeymoon. They wanted an experience that felt meaningful and private, in a beautiful place, without making the planning unnecessarily complicated.
“We were looking for an intimate and meaningful experience at a beautiful and special place, yet simple to execute.”
La Residence gave them exactly that: a secluded Franschhoek setting at the foot of the mountains, personal service, elegant interiors and gardens that create an exceptional backdrop for La Residence wedding photography.

An Intimate Elopement Ceremony at La Residence
The ceremony took place beside the Tea House on the rolling lawn overlooking the swan lake. The scale of the celebration suited the setting perfectly. It felt private and romantic, while the water, gardens and Franschhoek mountains gave the ceremony a strong sense of place.
Afterwards, Rod and Linda enjoyed canapés and sparkling rosé before we explored the estate for their couple photographs. An elopement gives us more freedom than a tightly scheduled large wedding. We can follow the best light, spend time in different parts of the property and let the photographs develop naturally rather than rushing through a fixed portrait list.
Wedding Photos Around the Gardens and Hotel
La Residence offers remarkable variety within one venue. The lake and lawns feel open and pastoral, the formal gardens add colour and texture, and the hotel’s richly designed interiors provide a completely different mood. This variety allows a La Residence wedding photographer to create a full visual story without taking the couple away from their celebration for long periods.
For Rod and Linda, we concentrated on relaxed photographs that showed their connection as well as the destination they had chosen. The mountain scenery, landscaped grounds and distinctive architecture all became part of the story, but the photographs remained centred on the couple.
A Romantic Dinner in the Sunken Lounge
Their wedding day ended with a private dinner in the Sunken Lounge, looking out towards the mountains. It was a fitting conclusion to an unhurried celebration: elegant, personal and closely connected to the Franschhoek landscape.
After leaving the Cape Winelands, Rod and Linda continued their honeymoon with safari experiences in Kruger National Park and Sabi Sand, followed by a final stay in Cape Town before returning home.
Why La Residence Works So Well for Wedding Photography
La Residence is known for luxury, but its greatest advantage for photography is the range of settings available on the property. Beautiful outdoor ceremony areas, water, gardens, mountain views and character-filled interiors are all close together. That matters on a wedding day because it creates visual variety without wasting time on travel between locations.
The venue is also well suited to destination weddings and elopements. Couples can stay on the property, celebrate in privacy and enjoy Franschhoek as part of the wider wedding experience. For a small wedding, that combination makes the day feel complete rather than scaled down.
Planning an Elopement at La Residence
For the best photographs, allow enough time to enjoy the grounds rather than treating the couple session as a quick formality. Late-afternoon light is usually the most flattering, but the exact plan should take the season, ceremony time and weather into account. Franschhoek can be very warm in summer, so shade and a realistic schedule are important.
An intimate wedding still deserves thoughtful photography coverage. Preparations, the ceremony, portraits, the atmosphere of the venue and the dinner all form part of the story. Video is especially valuable for an elopement because it lets family and friends experience the words, movement and emotion that photographs alone cannot preserve.
