Some couple shoots just feel effortless from the start, and Oreale and Lateef’s engagement photos in Cape Town at Signal Hill were exactly that. They live in the USA, but decided to celebrate their wedding journey here in South Africa, with their wedding taking place in the Cape Winelands at the beautiful La Paris Wine Estate in Franschhoek.

We photographed this engagement session before their wedding, and what made it even more special was seeing quite a few of these couple shoot photos printed, enlarged, and displayed at their wedding. It was such an awesome idea and added such a personal touch to the wedding celebration. There is something really special about walking into a wedding space and seeing personal photos of the couple as part of the décor. It makes the day feel even more like their story.
Oreale and Lateef were an absolute pleasure to photograph. They were stylish, relaxed, easy-going, and genuinely lovely to spend time with. At times, the shoot almost felt like a fashion or model shoot because they were so well dressed and carried themselves so naturally. But more than that, we really felt like we connected well with them, and that always makes a huge difference in the photos. When a couple feels comfortable with us, the moments become more natural, the smiles become more real, and the photos tell the story so much better.
Signal Hill is one of the best locations for engagement photos in Cape Town. It gives you a little bit of everything that makes the city so iconic. On one side, you have Table Mountain standing proudly in all its glory. On the other side, you get views of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Twelve Apostles mountain range, which forms part of the Table Mountain Nature Reserve. It is one of those Cape Town locations that feels dramatic, romantic, and relaxed all at the same time.
As the shoot continued, the light started to fade and Cape Town slowly transformed into evening. The city lights came on, and suddenly we had this completely different and unique backdrop to work with. That darker, moodier ending to the session gave the photos something extra special. It is always exciting when a shoot naturally changes as the light shifts, and Signal Hill is perfect for that.
