Places for a Couple Shoot in Cape Town – Part 2

In the last decade, the face of Woodstock has changed dramatically.  The once run down and crime ridden industrial suburb of Cape Town got a new lease on life as young professionals moved in and trendy restaurants and media businesses made use of the rustic & industrial space that was abandoned when manufacturing moved out.

Today, Woodstock is a vibrant part of town with revamped and dilapidated buildings side by side. You’ll also find funky coffee shops, graffitied walls, hipsters, antique furniture shops, fantastic food and craft markets like the Old Biscuit Mill.  Shooting here is great!  Take your couple for a walk to explore the food stalls, narrow streets with victorian buildings, funky design shops and capture the essence of modern Cape Town.

Kalk Bay, a quaint little fishing village right next to Muizenberg is about 30 minutes away for Cape town City centre.  The little village is wedged in between the steep rising mountains on the one side and the ocean on the other side.  In between, lies the famous coastal railway and the main road with vibrant coffee shops, bohemian clothing stores, beach side restaurants and antique shops with rare finds.

On the other side of the railway line there is a beautiful little white sandy beach.  The Kalk bay harbour is another gem!  One of our favourite couple shoots to date features this famous sea stopper! Coming to Cape Town and not visiting the V&A Waterfront is like going to Paris without doing the Louvre – It is a must see tourist attraction with some of the finest restaurants, boat trips and a 450 store mall.  What’s more is the fantastic views of Table mountain.

Take your couple for a leisurely stroll on the docks and snap away those classic portraits of two lovebirds kissing with Table Mountain looming in the background.  Or go on a boat trip for some stunning romantic photos on the ocean with the Cape Town City skyline as backdrop.  There are plenty more photo opportunities – modern art; interesting buildings and the dry docks are just some of the cool elements you can work with. Slightly further away from Cape Town, in Joostenberg Vlakte, is a fantastic spot for a couple shoot!  The Wijnland Auto Museum is a classic car graveyard and home to over 50 beautifully restored cars, with the oldest dating back to the early twentieth century.  Entry is just R50 per person last time we visited, but you better check on opening times and prices before you head that way.

On the grounds you will find an open yard with hundreds of old cars – Most of them rusted beyond repair, but there are also those that look like they were just parked there a few years ago.  The owner, an eccentric car hobbiest will tell you many stories about each of his restored babies that is safely displayed in a big warehouse.  He’ll tell you of all the movies his cars have been used for and about the latest fashion
