Hindu Wedding Cape Town
Have you ever heard of a small Hindu Wedding? Nope! Shyam & Vinasha’s at 320 guests is not the biggest we have done, but almost certainly one of the biggest weddings we have covered in South Africa. The biggest to date came in at 1000 strong, done in Liverpool, UK in 2008. The Kelvin Grove Club in Newlands was the chosen venue by the couple due to the beautiful chandelier clad ceilings that feature an elegance of a historic era. Not forgetting the beautiful and scenic exterior backdrop! The ballroom itself was decorated in vibrant pink, orange, gold and red colours.
Vinasha got ready at her residence in Cape Town. Her wedding dress was imported from India, hand made with embroidery and hand stitched crystals and beads. In South Africa most of us are used to white wedding gowns – but in indian culture, the colour red is associated with weddings, hence the beautiful red and pink attire.
Shyam did his preparations at the Southern Sun in Newlands and sported a very suave traditional Indian Wedding suit, also brought back from India. In true flashy style, the groom arrived in a red Ferrari!
The Hindu Wedding ceremony is quite a bit different from the usual Christian weddings we cover here in Cape Town. The main message stays the same – promises of devotion and love to each other, demonstrated through symbolic rituals around a fire under the Mandap.
The morning wedding finished with the couple photo shoot at Rhodes Memorial, another first for us. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention the awesome white Aston Martin Rapide, that was used for the couple shoot.
