Starting the Incentive Trip on Table Mountain

The programme began with a ride on the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway to the top of Cape Town’s most recognisable landmark.

Table Mountain is one of the New7Wonders of Nature and remains one of the essential experiences for any inbound group visiting Cape Town. The revolving cable car also provides guests with changing views as it travels towards the summit.

A Helicopter Flight Over the Mother City

After returning from Table Mountain, the group were treated to a scenic helicopter flight over Table Bay and Cape Town.

The excitement started before take-off as the guests gathered at the helipad, received their safety briefing and waited to board the helicopters.

Once in the air, they could see how dramatically Cape Town is positioned between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. The flight offered views over the city, harbour, coastline and surrounding mountain ranges.

The experience also created a completely different photographic story from the relaxed time on Table Mountain. We photographed the anticipation before departure, the helicopters taking off and the reactions of the reward winners when they returned.

We photographed the tuk-tuks arriving one after another, the interaction between the guests and the transition from a day of city sightseeing to an evening in the Cape Winelands.

Jeep Riding at the Atlantis Dunes

The following morning, the group travelled north of Cape Town for an adventure at the Atlantis Dunes.

The dune experience was operated by Jeep Tours Cape Town, beginning with an off-road ride through the white dunes in open-top Jeep Wranglers.

The Jeeps climbed, crossed and descended the dunes while the passengers held on and enjoyed the ride. It was energetic, unpredictable and filled with genuine reactions.

For us, these are the types of activities that make corporate incentive travel photography especially rewarding. We need to anticipate where the action will happen, position ourselves ahead of the group and capture both the movement of the vehicles and the expressions of the passengers.

The enormous white dunes also create a completely different visual setting from the mountain, city and vineyards photographed the previous day.

Sandboarding on the Atlantis Dunes

After the Jeep ride, the Old Mutual Namibia reward winners had an opportunity to try sandboarding.

Some guests quickly found their balance, while others created their own entertaining ways of reaching the bottom of the dune. There was plenty of encouragement, laughter and friendly competition between the participants.

Sandboarding gives us a combination of action photographs and close-up reactions. We photograph the guests preparing at the top of the dune, their attempts on the way down and the celebrations or laughter when they reach the bottom.

It is often the less polished moments that become the most popular images from an incentive trip. These photographs show the personality of the group and remind the guests how much fun they had together.

Quad Biking to Conclude the Cape Town Reward Trip

The final activity was quad biking across the Atlantis Dunes.

After receiving instructions and being fitted with their safety equipment, the guests followed the guides along routes through the dunes.

The quad bikes allowed the reward winners to experience the landscape at a faster pace and provided an energetic conclusion to the two-day programme.

From a photographic perspective, quad biking gives us the opportunity to create wide images showing the scale of the dunes, as well as tighter action photographs of individual guests riding through the sand.

By the end of the activity, the group had experienced four very different Cape environments: Table Mountain, the city and coastline from the air, the Franschhoek Winelands and the Atlantis Dunes.
